This article provides general information about non-invasive aesthetic and wellness treatments. It does not replace medical advice, diagnosis, pelvic-health physiotherapy or postnatal care. Treatment suitability, outcomes and recovery experiences vary. Speak to a GP or another appropriate healthcare professional about new, persistent or worsening bladder, abdominal or pelvic symptoms.
Motherhood has a remarkable way of making five quiet minutes feel like a mini spa break.
Some days, you may feel yourself completely. On others, your core may feel different, your face may look more tired than you feel, or coughing, laughing and exercising may bring an unwelcome reminder that your pelvic floor has been through rather a lot.
For us, a non-surgical makeover is not about trying to return to your pre-pregnancy body or meeting somebody else’s expectations. It is about focusing on the concerns that matter to you and finding realistic ways to feel more comfortable and confident.
You may be looking for:
- Stronger abdominal muscle tone
- A fresher, firmer-looking face
- Greater pelvic-floor and bladder confidence

EMSCULPT NEO, EMFACE and EMSELLA address these different concerns. Each treatment should be considered individually during consultation, based on your priorities, medical history and suitability.
What Can a Non-Surgical Makeover Include?
Although their names sound similar, these treatments work on different areas and should not be treated as interchangeable.
| Treatment | Main area | What it is designed to support | Typical experience |
| EMSCULPT NEO | Body | Muscle tone and targeted body contouring | Strong contractions with controlled warmth |
| EMFACE | Face | Facial muscle tone, skin firmness and definition | Warmth with rhythmic facial contractions |
| EMSELLA | Pelvic floor | Pelvic-floor muscle stimulation and bladder support | Seated, fully clothed muscle contractions |
The most appropriate starting point is the concern itself, rather than the name of a particular device.
EMSCULPT NEO for Body Tone and Definition
Pregnancy, changes in routine and time away from structured exercise can affect how connected you feel to your core. Some women may also notice changes in muscle definition around the abdomen.
EMSCULPT NEO body sculpting combines radiofrequency energy with high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy, commonly known as HIFEM+.
The electromagnetic energy produces repeated muscle contractions, while radiofrequency delivers controlled heat. The treatment is intended to support muscle building and non-invasive body contouring, not general weight loss. It does not replace exercise, balanced nutrition, postnatal rehabilitation or medical care.
A systematic review of HIFEM body-contouring research found that published studies reported changes in muscle and targeted fat measurements. However, relatively few studies specifically assessed EMSCULPT NEO, methods varied, and some studies reported marginal or no benefit.
The evidence is developing rather than conclusive, and individual results vary.
What Does EMSCULPT NEO Feel Like?
During treatment, applicators are positioned over the selected area. You will feel strong muscle contractions alongside controlled warmth.

The sensation is often compared with an intensive workout, although you remain lying down during the appointment.
Areas that may be considered include:
- Abdomen
- Flanks
- Buttocks
- Thighs
- Upper arms
- Calves
At Beauty Advance, the published course is four to six weekly sessions, subject to consultation and individual suitability.
A planned recovery period is not generally required. However, temporary warmth, redness, stiffness or muscle soreness may occur.
Our guide to supporting EMSCULPT NEO with exercise and nutrition explains how regular movement and everyday habits can complement a treatment programme.
Is EMSCULPT NEO Suitable After Pregnancy?
EMSCULPT NEO should not be treated as a shortcut through postnatal recovery.
If you have continuing abdominal or pelvic pain, bladder symptoms, concerns about caesarean recovery or possible abdominal separation, speak to your GP, midwife or an appropriately qualified pelvic-health physiotherapist before considering body-contouring treatment.
Tell your practitioner how recently you gave birth and disclose any continuing symptoms, procedures or postnatal care that may affect treatment suitability.
Recovery should follow your health needs and personal circumstances rather than comparisons with other people.
EMFACE for a Fresher Appearance
Changes in facial tone or skin firmness can sometimes make the face appear less defined or more tired.
EMFACE facial treatment combines synchronised radiofrequency energy with high-intensity facial electrical stimulation, known as HIFES.
Radiofrequency delivers controlled heat to the skin and underlying tissues, while HIFES stimulates selected facial muscles. The treatment is designed to support facial tone, firmness and definition without surgery or injections.
Published research into radiofrequency and facial muscle stimulation has reported changes in facial muscle thickness, soft-tissue movement and midface volume.
These findings are encouraging, but some studies involve relatively small groups. Further independent research is needed, and recorded changes do not guarantee the same visible improvement for every client.
What Happens During EMFACE?
Applicators are positioned on selected areas of the face, commonly around the forehead and cheeks.

Most people feel warmth alongside repeated facial contractions. The sensation can feel unusual at first, but a prolonged recovery period is not normally planned.
Sessions generally last between 20 and 30 minutes. A treatment course may be delivered over several weeks, depending on your facial structure, skin condition and individual goals.
Temporary effects may include:
- Mild redness
- Warmth
- Tingling
- Short-lived sensitivity
EMFACE may be considered when your priorities include mild skin laxity, softer facial definition, fine lines or reduced firmness around the brow and cheeks.
The aim is a subtle, refreshed appearance rather than a dramatic change to your features.
EMSELLA for Pelvic-Floor Support and Bladder Confidence
Pregnancy and childbirth can affect pelvic-floor function and may contribute to bladder symptoms. However, urinary leakage can have several causes and should not automatically be assumed to result from weak muscles.
Symptoms may include leakage when coughing, laughing or exercising, or a sudden urge to use the toilet.
The NHS overview of urinary incontinence explains that different forms of leakage can have different causes. Appropriate assessment is therefore important before choosing any treatment.
EMSELLA pelvic-floor treatment uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy to stimulate repeated pelvic-floor contractions.
You remain seated and fully clothed. The treatment does not involve needles or internal applicators.
EMSELLA may be considered as one option for suitable clients following appropriate assessment. It should not be presented as a universal cure or a replacement for established continence care.
First-Line Care for Urinary Incontinence
NICE guidance on urinary incontinence recommends at least three months of supervised pelvic-floor muscle training as first-line care for women with stress or mixed urinary incontinence.
Bladder training lasting at least six weeks may also be recommended for urgency or mixed symptoms.
EMSELLA should therefore be discussed only after the symptoms and their possible cause have been appropriately assessed.
A systematic review of electromagnetic treatment for urinary incontinence found that published studies suggest potential improvements in symptoms and quality of life.
Differences between studies and the need for further high-quality trials mean the evidence remains promising, but not definitive.
What Does an EMSELLA Session Involve?
During treatment, you sit on the chair for around 30 minutes while fully clothed.

You will feel strong, rhythmic contractions and mild tingling. The sensation may feel similar to an intense pelvic floor exercise session.
Beauty Advance describes a standard course as six sessions, usually scheduled twice weekly over three weeks, although the number and timing of appointments may be tailored following consultation.
A planned recovery period is not generally required, although temporary muscle fatigue may occur.
When Should You Seek Medical Advice?
Speak to a GP if you experience urinary leakage, continuing urgency, repeated urinary infections, pain when urinating or difficulty emptying your bladder.
Ask for urgent medical advice if you notice blood in your urine.
Seek urgent medical help if you are unable to pass urine, particularly if this is accompanied by severe pain or abdominal swelling.
A healthcare professional may recommend supervised pelvic floor exercises, bladder training, lifestyle changes, medication, or another form of care, depending on the symptoms and their possible cause.
Can You Discuss More Than One Treatment?
You may have more than one concern, but that does not mean all three treatments will be suitable or recommended.
EMSCULPT NEO, EMFACE and EMSELLA address different areas and should be considered separately during consultation. Suitability for one treatment does not automatically mean another will be appropriate.
Start With Your Main Concern
It is helpful to explain whether your priority is:
- Body tone and muscle definition
- Facial firmness and freshness
- Pelvic-floor function and bladder confidence
- More than one separate concern
This helps keep the three technologies from being treated as a single package.
Check Which Treatments May Be Suitable
Contraindications and precautions differ between EMSCULPT NEO, EMFACE and EMSELLA.
Pregnancy, certain health conditions, medication, electronic devices, implants or previous procedures may affect suitability, depending on the treatment being considered.
This article should not be used as a complete contraindication checklist. Suitability must be assessed for each treatment.
Set Realistic Expectations
These treatments may support cosmetic or functional improvements, but they are not equivalent to surgery, weight-loss treatment, physiotherapy or medical care.
Results vary, and receiving more treatments does not automatically lead to a better outcome.
Consider Each Concern Separately
When you are interested in more than one treatment, each concern should be assessed on its own.
The practitioner can explain the available options and published schedule for any suitable service. Beauty Advance should not be described as offering a standard three-treatment programme unless the clinic confirms this.
Understand How Progress Will Be Reviewed
Before treatment begins, ask how your goals and response will be reviewed. The assessment method will depend on the treatment and concern being addressed.
Which Treatment Matches Your Priorities?
| Your main concern | Treatment to discuss | What it does not replace |
| Muscle tone and body definition | EMSCULPT NEO | Exercise, nutrition or postnatal rehabilitation |
| Facial tone and firmness | EMFACE | Skincare, injectable treatment or surgery |
| Pelvic-floor function and bladder symptoms | EMSELLA | Clinical assessment or supervised continence care |
| Several separate concerns | Individual treatment discussions | Separate suitability screening for each service |
You do not need to arrive knowing which device you want.
It is often more useful to explain what has changed, how it affects you and what you would realistically like to improve.
A consultation can then help determine whether the treatment you are considering may be suitable or whether medical or specialist advice should be sought first.
Planning Your Non-Surgical Makeover
Treatment does not need to be framed as fixing your body. It should address a defined concern and be based on realistic expectations.
Because every face, body and medical history is different, we recommend beginning with a personal treatment consultation.
This gives us time to discuss your concern, review relevant medical information, explain possible side effects and assess whether the treatment you are considering may be suitable.
A consultation does not guarantee that a particular treatment will be recommended or provided.
Visit our consultation page to learn more about how we discuss concerns, treatment goals and suitability.
Feeling more like yourself should not depend on meeting somebody else’s standard. It should begin with clear information, careful assessment and a decision that feels right for you.
