With the overwhelming popularity of tattoos over the last ten years, the market for effective removal has exploded. Laser treatment is considered one of the best methods to remove any unwanted tattoos and the Q-switched Nd:YAG, and now the new KTP Laser for all ink-colours to be removed, are the most frequently used lasers. The easiest of colours to remove are black and red with the remaining colours being slightly more difficult (however we can remove/fade them).

General Information

On average it can take 3 – 12 treatments, however, this time can vary considerably due to different inks, tattoo application, age of tattoo etc. We have been able to remove tattoos in 1 treatment however this will depend on your type of tattoo.

Treatment is on average 8-12 weeks apart giving the tattoo time to heal fully. Prices vary depending on the tattoo and how much work is needed to remove the tattoo. Prices normally start from £60 per treatment.

Tattoo removal is not a quick process. Tattoo ink and natural pigmentation like melanin, absorb short pulse duration/high peak energy Q-switched pulses so quickly that they create a photo-acoustic effect within the pigment clusters. This effect breaks down the ink into much smaller particles that can be more easily removed by the body’s natural filtering system.

About the treatment

The area to be treated is cooled with our Cryo ICE machine. This helps reduce the amount of blistering that can sometimes occur and it makes the treatment more comfortable. The treatment is known for not being comfortable, however it is manageable. Many clients say it’s not as painful as they thought.

During treatment, pulses of light from the laser are directed onto the tattoo, breaking up the tattoo pigment. (Over the next several weeks the body’s macrophages remove the treated pigmented areas). After the treatment the tattoo will be covered with a dressing and needs to remain covered for 48 hours. This is to prevent any infection from occurring.

A few days after treatment the area will likely be raised and there may be blistering or scabbing, and this is completely normal. If this does happen, you can apply cold aloe vera gel to help with the healing process. Over the next 4-6 weeks the skin will be healing. Treatment will not be able to happen unless the skin has completely healed.

We also offer SPM – Semi-Permenant Make-up Removal.

Each clients pain threshold if different, so it is hard to advise. Yes, a full FREE no obligation consultation will be booked for your first visit, so we can look in to your medical history and also review the area, before confirming treatment plans and prices.

If you are happy with the recommendations on the day, you will then be offered the chance to have a Test Patch completed, which costs £30, but you have no obligation to go ahead on that day.

We recommend treatment every 8 – 12 weeks, and the Practitioner will advise you how long to leave it once a Test Patch has been completed, as it will depend on the area of the body, the colour and also how well your skin reacts. This is to ensure the Tattoo has fully healed before the next session.

Every client is different, as your body will do most of the work in between sessions, as the Laser Scatters the ink (breaks it down) in to smaller particles, making it easier for the body’s natural filtering system to work.

If you sustain any injuries between treatments i.e. A broken leg, please let the clinic know, as we would advise waiting longer in between sessions, until you have healed as your downtime from treatment will be much longer, as your body tries to heal.

You have to wait at least 3 months from the date that you had your Tattoo completed, before we can proceed. It has to have fully healed to insure safe treatment.

No, if you are looking for a cover up tattoo and your Tattooist has recommended you won’t need a full removal, we can work with you to get in to a point where you are happy to stop treatment.
